Description

Succession Planning: It’s not just for CEOs

“Without a strong succession-planning program, companies are not prepared to fill openings created by retirements or unexpected departures, nor are they able to meet demands for additional corporate leaders resulting from growth.” (Donald Delves, The Delves Group, March 21, 2011, Forbes online)

It seems that most conversations around succession planning have to do with identifying the best candidate to replace a departing CEO, but savvy businesses understand that having a strong succession-planning strategy goes much deeper than the C-suite level. Furthermore, what often passes as a succession plan is, in actuality, a replacement plan.

The question isn’t whether or not you or your organization should have a succession plan; the question is what are you doing today to ensure the survival and longevity of your organization tomorrow? A second question whether you are a board member, business owner, senior executive, HR professional, manager or supervisor is, what can you do to make sure your organization’s succession plan is successful so the organization will not just survive, but thrive? And for that matter, what are you doing for your own personal development that could make you a strong contender when higher-level positions open up in your organization?

In this Contract Holder’s Seminar we will explore drivers behind the need for your organization to have a succession planning strategy, concerns and issues associated with developing a good succession plan, some best practices of succession planning, what to look for when considering high potential candidates and more, including exploring strategies for launching a succession plan for your organization if you don’t currently have a plan.

The workshop format is a combination of presentation, exercises, and discussions. The facilitator will introduce new concepts, share real-life examples of their use in the workplace, and encourage participants to develop practical means of applying them directly to their current work situations. The presentation includes a PowerPoint, handouts, assessment tools, and video content when applicable.
